Herbal workshops
for all ages

News - Autumn – Winter 2010/11

Halloween

Halloween is a special time for Potions Club to celebrate the magic. Traditional bob apple was popular and ghostly games had everyone screaming. Creepy cakes and eyeball punch were on the menu. Some great art and craft work was created.

Elecampane

at Atlow Moat

As herbs die back for the winter and there’s no longer leaves to gather and use, it’s a good time to harvest roots. The roots of elecampane are ideal for making cough syrup with. Elecampane is used as a lung tonic and is particularly suited to treat persistent coughs. As for the taste… check out the It Tastes Like section.

Designer tea bags

Making a tea bag

Making tea bags was a hands-on activity at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Fair. One participant called them designer tea bags and started a trend to name the flavour of the tea bag being designed. There was ‘Eldermint’ by Emily followed by ‘Spearmint Surprise’ by Bea. Izzy thought of ‘Verminta’ and ‘Elderflower Fizzbag’, while Jamie called his ‘Magic Surprise’. Arkhie came up with ‘Mintyflower’, ‘Magic Flavours’ and ‘Potion Surprise’. Lewis called his ‘Fab Bag’ and Catherine called hers ‘Yum Yum Bag.’ Thanks to everyone for all your excellent ideas and for helping to make it such a great event.
