Summer term at Potions Club
In May, nettle wimps turned into nettle warriors as they grasped the nettle - literally! We made string, soup, hair- shiners and tincture from this most versatile of plants. Fruit & flower cocktailsJune saw colourful creations of fruit and flower cocktails. And for our finale in July we feasted on foraged food – elderflower fritters with rose petal syrup, baked potatoes with herbal butter, comfrey fritters, nettle seasoning and wild green salad all washed down with mint and lemon balm tea. A special hello and thanks to all Saturday Potions Club members and their parents – for making the club so magic!

Fairs
Potions Club popped up at Linacre Wood Fair and the National Forest Wood Fair. We were delighted to meet so many new people interested in potion-making there and then, and taking ideas away with them to use at home. Thanks to everyone who visited our stall and made it such a success.

Workshops
Young Mums at the NCT in Ashbourne and MAM in Cheadle relaxed at Potions Club workshops designed to deliver soothing and pampering potions such as lemon balm foot soak and rose petal skin toner. Click on the workshops page for further ideas to book for your group.

  Creative Partnerships
Vinegar of the 4 ThievesPotions Club is pleased to be working with Creative Partnerships at St. James’ Junior School in Derby, where children have made Vinegar of the 4 Thieves and other herbal potions. Regular Potions Club members have planted herbs in the school playground as part of a project giving direct experience of growing, using and enjoying plants.

In the News…
The Derby Evening Telegraph featured a double page spread on the delights of dining on dandelions and other tasty wild food – courtesy of Potions Club. The article which appeared on 8th May attracted widespread interest. See also the follow-up article in the Telegraph’s QT supplement on Saturday 23rd September.

Wild About Wild Food
Digging dandelions for stir-fry and gathering wild garlic for sauce were just two of the many Wild garlic in the woodsways campers enjoyed the bounty of mother nature’s larder on this fabulous Potions Club weekend. After sumptuous feasting and lots of fun, participants went home with a bottle of elderflower fizz and the inspiration to forage at home. We’ve since had reports of nettle soup frequently being enjoyed at the dinner table, which is just fantastic- that’s what it’s all about. Thanks to all you campers for making it such a wild weekend.
